& They're Back!

FINALLY! Ethan Kath & Alice Glass of the dark electronic/experimental duo Crystal Castles  from Toronto released a new track that everyone had been on the hunt for during the last month or so. It's called "Plague" and finding a version of this track that wasn't live was nearly impossible until now. It's also available as a free download if you click here & they were nice enough to include the lyrics to "Plague" when you watch it on YouTube. I'm not trying to sound sarcastic about that either; sometimes I cannot understand a single word that Alice Glass is screaming, so this is a big help.
What did you think of the track?
& check out the list of Fall tour dates below to see if CC is coming your way!
Hopefully by announcing a fall tour this means that the follow-up to Crystal Castles (II) will be released soon? One can only hope from this mysterious duo that I find absolutely addicting. Below is one of my favorite songs from Crystal Castles, and is from their last studio album circa 2010.

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #14

SO MANY ERRANDS for a Monday. This perfectly explains how my day went so excuse how late this post is. I added a few more tracks than usual because I spent a little too much time indoors (it was 104 degrees outside up until 8PM yesterday). Hope you guys enjoy tonight's post! Tomorrow is a big day for album releases FYI, Passion Pit & Purity Ring's album will finally be up for grabs among others LEGALLY. WOOOOO!
Bat For Lashes - "LAURA"
Here's the first dose of the new Bat For Lashes material off her upcoming album The Haunted Man. This will be the first studio album since her 2009 release Two Suns. The US release date is October 23rd, and do not expect anything less than theatrical for what's to come.
Milo Greene - "SILENT WAY"
This type of beautiful melody is easy on the ears to say the least. If you have a second, give their self-titled debut album a listen! Milo Greene just released a list of tour dates on their website, check them out here
Kill Paris - "THE LOVE WE SHARED"
This track samples Ivan Gough's "In My Mind", and if you're digging on it then help yourself to the free download of this track --> HERE! What's awesome about Kill Paris is that most of the tracks on his SoundCloud account are available as a free download, and they're kind of amazing.

Bloc Party - "OCTOPUS (RAC Mix)"
Those that are apart of RAC (Remix Artist Collective) know how to take a decent song, and transform it into something different. You can always count on some form of a groovy flow/tone if it's a RAC mix, and that's the truth.
How To Dress Well - "COLD NITES"
If you're a fan of Active Child, then you'll probably find yourself drooling over this track. Active Child & HTDW actually collaborated on an amazing track called"Playing House" that I featured on LYED awhile back. There's only one person in How To Dress Well, and that's Tom Krell from Brooklyn. His voice give
How To Dress Well's Blogspot --> http://howtodresswell.blogspot.co.uk/
The xx - "ANGELS" (Theatre of Delays Remix)
Breton - "JOSTLE"
Just stumbled across this experimental rock band from London while I was on La Blogotheque's website the other day. Breton was featured as one of the more recent "Take Away Shows"with this song, and it wasn't long before I was hooked on their sound. Don't let the horrible review on Pitchfork for their debut album Other People's Problems change your mind about these guys. Give their album a chance, it's worth it.
Ghost Beach - "BEEN THERE BEFORE"
Available for free download on their website http://www.ghostbeachmusic.com/ - It's a fun one in my book. If Neon Indian & Reptar had a child together, it would be Ghost Beach. The End
Kitten - "CUT IT OUT"
This trio from Los Angeles will be the opening act for Charli XCX's LA show @ the Troubadour on August 17th! That night will be nothing but dark bubblegum jams, and I'm curious to see how it will turn out.

Thank You! :)

B-SIDES: The Better Side?

B-SIDES! According to the Urban Dictionary, "a B-side was originally known as the song on the flipside of a 12" or 7" vinyl single that backed the A-side, but wasn't the song promoted or received the radio play". Sometimes B-sides are eventually added to full length productions, and sometimes they're a throwaway album cut. B-sides generally have a rep for absolute crap quality, and made it easier to persuade radio stations/DJs to play the correct side. This isn't the case for the tracks I selected for today's post, these B-sides are more than worthy.
ENJOY!

The Kills - "BLUE MOON"
The B-Side to The Kills' second single "Future Starts Slow" which was released last year. I'm such a sucker for anything that this duo touches. If you ever have the time to look up more b-sides & unreleased tracks from The Kills THEN DO IT. Gems on gems on gems.
The xx - "DO YOU MIND?"
The B-side to "Islands" from 2009. Another B-side I love from The xx is "Insects". Check it out if you haven't already!
St. Vincent - "GROT"
I'm not the biggest St. Vincent fan, but when I watched her set at last year's Treasure Island Music Festival-I was impressed with how amazing she sounded live. For this year's Record Store Day St. Vincent released a red vinyl 7" with "KROKODIL" as the A-side & "GROT" (the track above) as the B-side. I dig it.
Little Dragon - "STRANGER"
Little Dragon can do no wrong, except for not including this track on their 2009 full-length Machine Dreams. The A-side "Feather" was included on the full-length, and is one of my favorites by them.
Two Door Cinema Club - "COSTUME PARTY"
The B-side for "I Can Talk". Call me crazy, but this track should have been on their  2010 debut album Tourist History. Luckily they perform "Costume Party" live, and I will be seeing them in Philadelphia this September. :D
The Civil Wars - "SOUR TIMES"
This is actually a Portishead cover, but this particular recording was used by The Civil Wars as the B-Side for their Billie Jean release on Record Store Day.
Nearly 2 years after releasing her debut album Lungs, Florence and the Machine released Lungs: The B-Sides, 11 tracks including two special covers & a few other gems. This is the opening track on the album, and the lyrics are probably some of my favorite from Flo overall.

freshvibesmonday #13

Happy Monday fellow music lovers! Hope your weekend wasn't as lazy as mine due to receiving what feels like 1st degree burns on my chest & stomach (damn you Isla Vista sun). I took it as an opportunity to catch up on some decent movies that I haven't seen before (Spun, Empire Records, etc). I have to apologize that today's post is more of a playlist with minimal commentary. It's been a pretty hectic day; woke up this morning to an e-mail from the Urban Outfitters Home Office telling me that I had been offered a styling position for an internship that will take place this fall (September) in Philadelphia! AHHHHH so much work has been devoted to this dream of mine since I started working at UO, and to have it coming together is quite a blessing. P.S. If you happen to know anyone that lives in Philly, or know anything about Philly, hoooook a sister up with some information as I'm currently in the process of looking for housing. Thank you!

P.S. Just realized that the Facebook page for LYED is at 61 likes, thank you so much for the support! :D
If Sea Wolf doesn't ring a bell for you, then if you can remember that ever-so-catchy song "You're a Wolf" from the film Zombieland. That's Sea Wolf! 'Old Friend' is the first single off Sea Wolf's upcoming album Old World Romance. If you happen to like this song, you might like The Tallest Man on Earth or Delta Spirit!
*click on the song title to listen to the latest from Tall Ships from their SoundCloud account.
SWIM DEEP - "BEACH JUSTICE"
Swim Deep will always have a special place in my heart with their track "King City" that became a staple in my Itunes about 6 months ago. Swim Deep consists of a few "beach bums from Birmingham" that
The XX - "ANGELS"
Just like everybody else, I'm happy as hell to have a small taste of Coexist after waiting for quite some time. It's definitely not something that would measure to a track like "Islands", instead it's what the xx is highly capable of perfecting- simplicity. Along with releasing "Angels", The XX released the album cover, tracklist, and several more tour dates. I am thrilled to find out that they will be coming to Philadelphia while i'm there (October 29th). ALSO, every ticket purchased for their tour comes with a free download of the upcoming album that will be released on September 11th! Now that's what I call a bargain.
Foreign Beggars - "FLYING TO MARS"
Here's a little something to mix things up. I first heard of Foreign Beggars when they were featured on a Skrillex track (Scatta). Since then they've been growing and continuing to make more music with zee Skrill.
I must admit, it was a bit of a pleasant surprise when I stumbled across this video earlier today. I guess I sorta fell out of the loop with Two Door Cinema Club, but I am thrilled to know that the follow-up to their debut album will be released on September 3rd! Their last & first album Tourist History is definitely one to check out. It's a pretty straight-forward album, and probably one of the first albums I was hooked on when I was introduced to rock music from Europe. Below is an extra song from TDCC's Japanese version of Tourist History, enjoy!

Getting Back Under The Covers: Part II

Welcome to Round 2 of my favorite cover songs! Hope you weren't expecting to see the "Rhiannon" cover recently destroyed by Best Coast. Yes, I did give it a listen and the benefit of the doubt, but it was so painful that I couldn't stick around to hear the end.
If you would like to see for yourself, click on the links below.

First Aid Kit - "PLAYING WITH FIRE"
(Rolling Stones Cover)
Bombay Bicycle Club - "WHATCHA SAY"
(Cover of Jason De Rulo's Cover of Imogen Heap)
A cover of a cover? It's funny in the beginning, but just give it some time and soon enough you'll be hooked on it.
Ellie Goulding Ft. Tinie Tempah - "HANGING ON"
(Active Child Cover)
Birdy - "1901"
(Phoenix Cover)
Bon Iver - "COMING DOWN"
(Anais Mitchell Cover)
Cat Power - "WONDERWALL"
(Oasis Cover)
The Kills - "DREAMS"
(Fleetwood Mac Cover)

Pitchfork was kind enough to put together a list for "The Worst Covers of 2011", and if you're curious to see which ones made the list

freshvibesmonday #12

This post is worth the waiting, trust me.
& don't be shy - let me know what you think!

ENJOY!
Tame Impala - "APOCALYPSE DREAMS"
After announcing that the next album for Tame Impala will be released sometime in October of this year, TI was nice enough to release a track that will be featured on Lonerism. If you're into psychedelic rock, then this band from Australia is the one for you. They have a light yet eclectic sound, and it won't be long before you find yourself hypnotized by the sound of Kevin Parker's voice. Their 2010 debut album Innerspeaker is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
Young Wonder - "FLESH"
If you haven't already noticed, I can't get enough of this pop/electronic duo from Cork, Ireland. "Flesh" is another track off their recent self-titled EP that's available for a couple bucks on their
bandcamp account. Young Wonder is definitely worth checking out, otherwise I wouldn't blog about them so much. If you're a fan of Purity Ring or Modeselektor, then you will fall in love with Young Wonder. I recently discovered that they had a station on Pandora, and let's just say I "liked" almost every other song that appeared.
Twitter Account = https://twitter.com/young__wonder
Dirty Projectors - "DANCE FOR YOU"
This is the second single off Swing Lo Magellan, the sixth studio album from the experimental rock band that will be released in the US tomorrow (Tuesday)! If there's one thing you should know about Dirty Projectors, don't be surprised if you're thrown off in a middle of a song. For example, "Dance For You" is like a cross-country road trip. It literally goes everywhere in terms of the melody, but manages to make it back to square one for the last 40-45 seconds of the track.
Charli XCX - "GRINS" (Blood Diamonds cover)
Not long ago Charli XCX released a free mixtape Heartbreaks and Earthquakes on her website. All you have to do is submit your e-mail address, and in return the download for the mixtape will be waiting for you in your inbox. The mixtape features a handful of new songs, that are for the most part: covers/remixes (the mixtape starts off with Charli XCX's energetic cover of Blood Orange's "Champagne Coast".)  The track I chose to feature is an original track from Blood Diamonds aka Michael Diamond from Vancouver. It's sassy, and you're going to like it.
Van She - "JAMAICA"
*Just a heads up that this is my favorite track of this post. "Jamaica" is the 2nd single off Idea of Happiness; the long awaited full-length from the Australian four-piece Van She. They're signed to Modular Recordings, which is the home to several other bands/artists such as Ladyhawke, The Presets, Chromeo, Cut Copy, Tame Impala, and moooore! The best description I could find for Van She was from the Modular website aka Modular People, stating that they "bridge the musical gap between boldly adventurous shoegaze and danceable glint disco".
Tomorrow is a big day for album releases in the US, and lucky enough Idea of Happiness will be one of them! WOOO.
Passion Pit - "CONSTANT CONVERSATIONS"
No joke, this is the one track that I've heard about the most since talks of Gossamer appeared. The 2nd full length from Passion Pit will be released on July 24th, and "Constant Conversations" is the third track to be released from it. The most recent track to be released before CC is "I'll Be Alright", and it is legitimately a 180 of "Constant Conversations" in terms of how it sounds. This doesn't mean that the tone of the track is any different from the other, Gossamer is an album in which Michael Angelakos vilifies himself. In short, "Constant Conversations" is what I would call a delicate soul caught in a pool of the deadliest vices that are saying "whoa-oh-oooh".
The Early November - "IN CURRENTS"
AHHHHHH. :) Let's just say I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up when I found out that The Early November were reuniting after a 4 year break-up. Yes there were other projects to fill the void (I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business, Ace Enders and a Million Different People, and Joe joined Hellogoodbye until this year). I'm sure your reaction could relate to mine if you were raised on Drive-Thru Records (back when Drive-Thru Records had bands such as Senses Fail, Midtown, Homegrown, Something Corporate, etc).  In Currents is the product of the reunion and is also the 3rd full length album from The Early November. TEN is now on Rise Records, AND THE ALBUM COMES OUT TOMORROW! I apologize for getting a little over-the-top but my #1 favorite song to this day is "Baby Blue" by them, and this particular clip from a Drive-Thru Records DVD of the guys goofing around to the song is the icing on the cake.
Till Next Time...

Breezy Vibes & Such

Hope you guys had an awesome 4th of July (that is if you can remember it). Here are a few breezy vibes that are too good to go unheard. Enjoy!
Slow Magic - "ON YR SIDE"
Bombay Bicycle Club - "LIGHT'S OUT WORDS GONE"

Click on the link above to listen to Star Slinger's latest remix of Jessie Ware's hit single "Wildest Moments". Ahhhh Star Slinger can do no wrong in my book.

netsky - "PUPPY"
Diana - "BORN AGAIN"

Recently Gorilla Vs. Bear released a June 2012 mix that is available for download on their site. It's a great collection of summer tunes, including Purity Ring, Frank Ocean, Clams  Casino, and more! Click on the link below to check out the track list.

freshvibesmonday #11

& here's another dose of new music for you guys, hope all of you enjoy it! This last week has been a bit hectic to say the least, between catching up with friends and spending time in San Francisco (where I had the opportunity to catch Avicii + ZION I and TOKiMONSTA, for free!) Thank you to Kelly & Monique for the sweet hookups, needless to say I'll be back again soon. :)

Technically it's my last week of "summer" before I start summer quarter, aka my last quarter of college. For the next couple of days when I'm not attempting to break my leg via wake-boarding, I'll be at the computer - so please feel free to send me new music or maybe new artists that you've stumbled across via e-mail (emilyponcetta@gmail.com)

Wye Oak - "SPIRAL"
So about two weeks ago or so, I featured a track from Unknown Mortal Orchestra which was the first single off the 2012 Adult Swim Singles Program. I missed the 2nd week single which was from The Hives, but I am stoked to present to you the single for week #3 here on Let Your Ears Decide! It's from Wye Oak, one of my favorite indie folk rock duos from Baltimore. It's titled "Spiral" and in no way does it sound like they changed their sounds for this program, IT'S GOOD IT'S GOLD.
Marina and the Diamonds - "HOW TO BE A HEARTBREAKER"
This is a track that Marina wrote after releasing her recent 2nd full-length album in the UK. Since Electra Heart won't be released in the US until July 17th, expect to see it on the track listing! It's a bit more fast-paced, but in my opinion it fits in perfectly with the other tracks featured on Electra Heart. If you get a chance, check out Electra Heart's Tumblr Account HERE, it's legitimately a gallery of eye candy that goes along with the recent album.
Lykke Li - "SILVER SPRINGS"
FYI this is a Fleetwood Mac cover, and is apart of a Fleetwood Mac tribute album titled Just Tell Me That You Want Me. This is such a pretty version of the track, and it's always nice to hear something new from the Swedish singer-songwriter. The full-length tribute album will be released on August 14th via Hear Music/Concord.
Twin Shadow - "GOLDEN LIGHT"
This is a track off of Twin Shadow's followup to his 2010 debut album Forget. I'm a huge fan of Twin Shadow aka George Lewis Jr. and to say the least I am excited to listen to his 2nd full-length album from beginning to end. I have a feeling that Confess will be packed full with emotion/drive due to a certain event regarding a motorcycle, this is his way of coming to a meeting point with the emotions that ignited. Confess will be released in the US on July 10, and a day before in the UK.
Little Boots - "HEADPHONES"
It has been a great amount of time since I've heard something fresh from Elizabeth Hesketh, aka Little Boots. Little Boots never strays away from her electro-pop ways, and this song is a perfect example. So if you're looking for something to get the energy juices flowing before going downtown, here ya go.
Alpine - "GASOLINE"
MMmmm. A little gem I randomly stumbled upon, and I hope you dig the catchiness as much as I love.   Alpine is from Melbourne, Australia & let's just say I'll be filing their tunes next to We Have Band & Metronomy. I'm stoked to hear that they will be releasing a new album A is for Alpine soon. Alpine was #1,161 new band of the day for theguardian, and I can definitely see why!
Minus The Bear - "LONELY GUN"
Yes, it's happening. Minus the Bear will be releasing their 5th album on August 28th! This album is titled Infinity Overhead, and the track above is the first single off of it! I love the intensity of this track, as a few of my favorite MTB tracks tend to be the more mellow yet vibrant ones. According to a recent article on Rolling Stone, this track "came out of a deep depression". I have high hopes for this band, as my expectations are always met each times I hear something from them-hope you like it!
