freshvibesmonday #17 (OVERDUE)

YES I know It's Friday & not Monday (TGIF for all of you living a 9-5/M-F lifestyle like me.) I've been updating the Facebook page for LYED as much as possible, and if you haven't had a chance to check it out ---> PLEASE DO! :) Just click HERE & Poof, your ears and eyes are in for a treat! :)
Guards - "SILVER LINING"
If this band doesn't ring a bell, but Two Door Cinema Club does...guess what - they're touring together! Maybe this song rings a bell? If not, have no fear - this is a band from NYC that has a great future ahead of them. Although they're not touring on the West coast with TDCC, their east coast shows should be amazing! I'm fortunate enough that I will be seeing them on Saturday at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia! (AKA My new home). It's my first time checking out the Electric Factory, but I've heard several good things about this venue. Wish me luck! ;)
Nero - "WON'T YOU (BE THERE)
I've been looking forward to this gem for quite some time after they recently announced (via Facebook) that they were going to release a new track. All 3 members of NERO (Daniel, Joe, and Alana) are currently working on their 2nd album, and how nice of them to share this gem that they initially planned to include in their DJ sets. I am a big fan of NERO, and was fortunate enough to catch their set during the first weekend of Coachella (which was beautiful). Sad to hear that the 2nd weekend set was scheduled earlier during the day, and therefore it didn't match what the members of NERO had expected for their ideal performance environment. I don't blame them! In my opinion,NERO comes alive in the night time.
Don't forget! This track is a FREE DOWNLOAD! All you gotta do is click HERE
If you've been keeping up with the FB page for LYED then hopefully your ears would've listened to one of the latest unreleased tracks from The Head and the Heart recently performed live on KEXP. There was a bit of a twist though to this performance: only 3 of the band members are here for this specific performance (Josiah, Jonathan, and Charity) which are the three main vocalists for The Head and the Heart. They performed a couple of unreleased tracks (one of them was "untitled" or maybe that was the title?) Anyways, I felt this was a beautiful way to give listeners an opportunity to capture the acoustic version of upcoming tracks that will hopefully be released on the upcoming album.
Alt-J - "TESSELLATE"
Here's an example of something that isn't as fresh as the other tracks featured on this post, but the debut album for Alt-J was released about a week ago on September 18th! Their music has been released over the course of the past few months, but I must admit that it is nice to listen to the album An Awesome Wave from beginning to end. This album is BEAUTIFUL and besides this track I am OBSESSED with "Something Good". I am constantly receiving Ben Howard & Radiohead vibes throughout each song In my response this album fits perfectly for my walk to the subway station. Usually I am looking for something for my walk to work that's overly upbeat such as Martin Solveig or even Two Door Cinema Club, but this album has definitely made it on the list.
A friend of mine recently introduced me to this song and I was stoked on from the start. Fair Lion (aka Victoria Tresko) is from New York and if you have a chance, check out her SoundCloud account. There's a handful of songs on there that are worth checking out! It's a little Imogen Heap-ish (which I love) but Fair Lion takes a more electronic/trip-pop direction. Regardless, her voice is mesmerizing alone. So, what do you think?
Cold Cave - "A LITTLE DEATH TO LAUGH"
Mmmm between the latest release from TRUST and this new one from Cold Cave, that little dark & cold part of my soul is temporarily satisfied. If that sounded a little over the top then I'm glad.Fun Fact: this track was written, recorded, and performed by Wesley Eisold in his Los Angeles apartment. Cold Cave will be going on tour this fall and expect some new but familiar faces to be performing with him. Former members from Blood Brothers, Samhain, AFI, and LCD Soundsystem will be joining him on stage!
Also, I recently stumbled upon this track by Swedish musician Hannes Norrvide that's worth checking out if you like the song above ---> Lust for Youth - Behind Curtains.
CHVRCHES - "THE MOTHER WE SHARE"
I'm just now hopping on the CHVRCHES train, and I won't be surprised if you do the same after listening to this catchy lil track. The Mother We Share is out on 5 November via National Anthem. Feel-good electronic indie is what's in store if you decide to click on the video above. Also, the higher the volume is when you listen to this song, the more you'll enjoy it. Looking for something with a punch? Listen to this one from CHVRCHES called "Lies"

freshvibesmonday #16

Don't forget to check out "LYED" ON:
WOO HOO LET YOUR EARS DECIDE IS OFFICIALLY BACK! After a variety of exams and flights across the United States LYED is now stationed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and ready for business! :) The original FVM #16 post (which should have been posted last Monday) was a pretty mellow one if I do say so myself. Since I've had some time to continue researching, I'm not going to lie that I'm more excited about this post. This is due to the list of events that have taken place and distracted me from posting last week's edition. I've stumbled upon more gems which means this edition of freshvibesmonday shares a similarity to the past ones, providing musical breadth and definitely going somewhat in-depth.

I'm not afraid to admit that I sometimes play favorites with this music blog, and that is because of how low-key I keep it at times. If you have the slightest bit of knowledge about my brunette self, you would know that I treasure Ellie Goulding & Bombay Bicycle Club equally. I will always have a passion for Ellie Goulding, as last year was quite a growing year for her. The follow-up to her debut album will be released on October 9th in the US and it's called Halcyon. Although I adore the remix that Blood Diamonds did for the latest Ellie track, I must admit I've found a special spot in my hear for this remix from Birdy Nam Nam. It puts a smile on your face, and I am in love with the picture of Ellie Goulding above. Just wait until you see the pictures I have of Ellie from last year to declare how much of a Goulddigger I am. xx

My knowledge of Eliza Doolittle isn't the amount that I'd like it to be, but I do know something about this woman: she isn't afraid to speak her mind. It's one thing to make comments during controversial interviews, but Eliza Doolittle saves her thoughts and disposes them at the right time. This song is so mesmerizing that at first you might be distracted from the punch that this track delivers when you first listen to it. Take my word and give it a few listens, you'll know what I mean.
Datsik - "JUICEBOX"
Datsik deserves a lot of credit in my opinion, he had one of the toughest slots at Coachella this year (the same time as Swedish House Mafia's set which took place on the Main Stage) yet managed to still deliver a Coachella-worthy set. Datsik hasn't let that get to him, and this particular song "Juicebox" is an example of how easily Troy Beetles can fuck with your mind into thinking that you shouldn't re-think the next time he plays a set in your town.
pennybirdrabbit - "DAYLIGHT"
If this artist doesn't ring a bell to you, don't fret. If you're familiar with Skrillex then you should already be familiar with her voice as she provided the vocals for "All I Ask of You" off his first EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. Since then she's worked/performed with a variety of artists including Porter Robinson & The M Machine.  Check out more of Penny's music on her SoundCloud account. Share this lovely woman's music with your friends, family, pets, because it is free and you can't go wrong with something that's free right? Penny is a beautiful vocalist that I seriously hope to hear more from in the future!
How To Dress Well - "RUNNING BACK"
Off the forthcoming album Total Loss, ghostly R&B is indeed Tom Krell's forte. The album drops tomorrow and let's just say this isn't an album you can push play in hopes to entertain a children's 10th birthday party. This is the type of music that is meant for you, and other serious music aficionados. If you're a fan of Blood Orange, then definitely look into this album!

Imogen Heap - Xizi She Knows
This song was released via Imogen Heaps' SoundCloud Account about 8 months ago, and I am so disappointed that I'm just now finding out about this gem. Check out Imogen Heap's SoundCloud account  for more treats if this is the first time you've heard about this lovely individual.
Grizzly Bear - "SPEAK IN ROUNDS"
First off, if the only familiarization you have with Grizzly Bear is that damn "Two Weeks" song that plays on nearly EVERY Pandora station imaginable FORGET ABOUT IT. This new album is something bigger and better, and hopefully won't be frequenting on every single Pandora station (yes, it  even made it's way onto my Martin Solveig station one time). It has taken quite a bit of time to get this album out, but I definitely am one to say that it is something worth the waiting. The album comes out TOMORROW, and I'm stoked for those of you who haven't had a chance to preview it via NPR.
Daughter - "MEDICINE"
This is made available due to WatchListenTell, a beautiful collaboration I found via YouTube. This channel has captured some of the most amazing artists (and especially favorites of mine like Bombay Bicycle Club, Lucy Rose, Two Door Cinema Club, and more recently Jessie Ware). By playing an amazing track in a beautiful setting, this makes for a WONDERFUL video. So in return we must tell others about this type of scenario that is currently going on as a way of spreading the word!

A Little Bit of EFF-WHY-EFF

The big day is almost here! On Wednesday I'll be making the move from California to Pennsylvania & begin the next chapter of my life - IN PHILLY!
To sum it up, FYF was a great experience! I learned quite a bit last weekend while covering the sunny LA festival. I cannot wait to share the details with all of you, including the details of a VERY special interview that I had the opportunity to take part in during Day 1. Until that post arrives, check out a few of the shots I snapped (wouldn't have been possible without being granted a Press Pass for the event, thanks Vanessa)! The festival lineup was incredibly stacked both days, and each day felt never-ending (but in a good way)! I was lucky enough to catch almost everyone that I had planned on watching, but unfortunately I missed out on Aesop Rock, Wild Nothing, Tycho, and Future Islands.
Megan James of Purity Ring (DAY 1)
Ruth Radelet of The Chromatics (DAY 1)
Anthony Gonzalez of M83 (DAY 1)
Paul Banks (DAY 2)

FYF IS FINALLY HERE...

Ticket? CHECK

Camera? CHECK
Sunglasses? CHECK

It is officially September 1st, and it won't be long before the Los Angeles State Historic Park opens their gates to thousands of hungry individuals. Some might be hungry for an overpriced piece of pizza, but the kind of hunger I'm talking about is for MUSIC. Nothing beats live music. What better place to experience a music festival then in Los Angeles where you won't have to worry about freezing your bum off (cough, Outside Lands). Once the schedule was finally made public, there were a few minor tantrums/rants and it wasn't long before they tweaked/edited the positions of the time slots. The *UPDATED* & official time schedule is featured below if you haven't had a chance to check it out!
I was quite surprised to find that there wasn't an APP for FYF FEST. Festival apps do come quite in handy, and it saves paper ;). This will be my first time attending FYF & to be honest with you I have no idea what to expect. It's better to hope for the best rather than set obnoxiously high standards of what the festival will be like, right? Even better, I managed to attain a Press Pass for the event due to a fellow music aficionado/friend of mine having to cancel. This will be the first of (hopefully) many experiences where I will have this type of opportunity at a music festival. Don't worry, you'll be the first to hear about the details :) Now here are a few tracks that I've been listening to of bands that will be playing at FYF FEST.
Simian Mobile Disco - "SERAPHIM"
Tanlines - "ALL OF ME"
M83 - "REUNION"
Beirut - "ELEPHANT GUN"
Givers - "MEANTIME
Tycho - "COASTAL BRAKE"
Future Islands - "AN APOLOGY"

I realized where this was going so I had to pull myself away from adding the next video, this lineup is just loaded from ear to ear with amazing sets it's hard to choose a select few! I hope that for those who are attending to have a great time, and for those who aren't attending - HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
