ALL THINGS ORANGE / HAPPY HALLOWEEN !

Maybe it's the crazy weather, but who knows - I'm in a mhanks to Sandy, I decided to make this post relevant to 2 events/things/whatchamacallit-s that are currently being celebrated at the moment. Those two things are:

The SF Giants winning the World Series (again)!
&

HALLOWEEN!
If you were thinking that I was going to dedicate this post to a variety of spooky songs & baseball victory chants - sorry for the confusion. If you haven't caught on from my previous posts, I'm a cheesy one so I decided to make this post "all things orange-related". You won't be disappointed, I had a lot of fun with this post to be honest. I might have kept the descriptions or personal responses short, but keep in mind it took some genuine brainstorming to take place.

XXXX
Young Wonder - "ORANGE"
I can remember the first time that I heard this track, and immediately featured in a post on LYED because of how excited I felt about this band. Several months later, and I am still just as giddy about this duo from Ireland!
Bon Iver - "BRUISED ORANGE (CHAIN OF SORROW)"
This cover of a John Prine song was the B-side when Bon Iver released the popular track titled "Towers" as a single last year.
Gardens & Villa - "ORANGE BLOSSOM"
Just in case you might be unfamiliar with this track - Gardens & Villa is an amazing band from where I recently moved from (Santa Barbara, California). G&V isn't a stranger to LYED, as I featured their recent Fleetwood Mac cover & a couple of over songs over the past couple of months.
Blood Orange - "DINNER"
Since living on the East Coast, I am definitely guilty of living vicariously through Devonte Hayes aka Blood Orange Instagram account. I'm a huge fan of Blood Orange's 2011 debut album Coastal Grooves, and recently he's held responsible for the success of
The Chemical Brothers - "ORANGE WEDGE"
I'm not sure how you feel about The Chemical Brothers - but they never fail to feed my soul. This track is off their 1999 album Surrender which also features another favorite of mine "Hey Boy Hey Girl" & "Let Forever Be".
Opus Orange - "IT'S ALRIGHT"
Short but sweet, yet it's alright? Let me know what you think! :)
Discovery - "ORANGE SHIRT"
Seriously, what happened to these guys? If you're unfamiliar with Discovery, please check into them - they have been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. It's a group that incorporates just enough of Caribou & mysteriousness at the same time. :)
Bright Eyes - "BOWL OF ORANGES"
Honestly, when Bright Eyes comes into the picture - don't you feel that you should take a step aside and let this song explode as it does for me?
Frank Ocean - "CRACK ROCK"
Of course I had to include something from Frank Ocean's brilliant debut album Channel Orange. This album puts a smile on face because of how many positive and great memories I have related to this album. More specifically when I visited my friend Mallory in Los Angeles one day this album was everything we listened to whether we were in the car or hanging out at her house. 'Twas a good day. One thing about this amazing song is how it perfectly transitions into "Pyramids", which is one of my FAVORITE tracks off this album.

FRANKENSTORM TUNES.

LYED is coming to you live from Hurricane Sandy/Frankenstorm! Okay, I know I'm just being dramatic as per usual - but Sandy is definitely on her way! The gloomy weather immediately turns off my motivation switch, but I decided to be a bit creative with this post before I lose power. :) Cross your fingers that nothing extreme happens over here!
Every now & then when I'm beyond bored and looking for material to post about on LYED... I always pick a phrase/word and then see what songs I can find incorporating those words. So obviously when every other word on the television consisted of "Hurricane Sandy" i decided to do a little search to see what songs I could stumble across that featured "hurricane" or were storm-related.

Florence and the Machine - "HURRICANE DRUNK"
This was without a doubt the first track that came to mind when I was brainstorming song ideas. This is one of my favorite tracks from Florence and the Machine and for those who are stuck indoors during  this lovely weather - what else is there to do besides drink till you're "hurricane" drunk?
Something Corporate - "HURRICANE"
Nostalgia at best. Something Corporate will forever remain as one of my favorite bands that were once associated with Drive-Thru Records. About 2 years ago Something Corporate released Played in Space: The Best of Something Corporate & of course this track was featured on it. :)
MS MR - "HURRICANE"
Off their latest EP Candy Bar Creep Show; definitely one of my favorites from this group!

The Hush Sound - "HURRICANE"
Just a random little treat I decided to add in this blog post, If you're not familiar with The Hush Sound - maybe you've heard "Crawling Towards the Sun" ?
Bob Dylan - "HURRICANE"
Definitely an oldie BUT a goodie.
Hurricane Bells - "MONSTERS"
This track is featured on the debut album Tonight is the Ghost & also on the New Moon (Twilight) Original Soundtrack!
Tame Impala - "JEREMY'S STORM"
The psychedelic yet delicious track from their 2010 debut album Innerspeaker.
Mumford and Sons - "AFTER THE STORM"
The last track off their debut album Sigh No More, hope you've been enjoying their latest album Babel which was recently released a couple of weeks ago!
Baby Bash ft. Hurricane Chris, Gorilla Zoe - CYCLONE (REMIX)
If you've actually paid attention to this blog post then I hope you enjoy this last little ridiculous treat. BELIEVE ME, there were plenty of others that I could have ended this blog post with that were beyond embarassing/humiliating but I decided to stick with this instead.

One AMAZING Way to Start Your Morning :)

For me personally, getting ready in the morning is something that cannot be done without listening to MUSIC. Listening to something that's upbeat is a MUST! Sorry espresso, but you're not #1 on my list of pick-me-ups when I'm looking for something to start the day off right (although there are days when a pit-stop for coffee is more than necessary). My preference for music in the morning varies with the type of day it's going to be. Some mornings I immediately go straight for Yeasayer's latest album Fragrant World, and then there are mornings where I blast LCD Soundsystem like there's no tomorrow and it turns into a one-person dance party with my hairbrush in hand. Take it from me, LCD Soundsystem does wonders especially when you have to wake up at 4:15AM for your 6AM shift. ;)

The playlist featured below is more of a mellow (but nowhere near as mellow as a Bon Iver track) selection of songs! These are the songs that I immediately turn on the second I walk out the door of my apartment complex, and into the chilly Philadelphia weather. There's a great chance you've heard a few of the tracks before. My morning playlist is never the same, so there will be different versions popping up throughout the next couple of weeks, hope you find them just as helpful as I do!

4 THINGS YOUR EARS NEED TO HEAR ASAP.

& what a big surprise, each of the songs featured below are quite different from the next one. This was definitely a coincidence, but then again I've never been one to stick with a single genre when blogging or listening to music. I also posted a couple of videos/tracks that I'm currently digging on my Twitter account
www.twitter.com/emponce
& also - don't forget to check out www.facebook.com/LetYourEarsDecide!
For all of you Bombay Bicycle Club fans - I recently gave away two free tickets to tonight's sold out show at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood from the LYED Facebook page! Congratulations to Calia Minasian who won the tickets & is currently enjoying the show :)

ON AN ON - "GHOSTS"
This was recently brought to my attention from a good friend named Kat, and without hesitation I clicked on it because she is someone who knows what I like (when it comes to music). I immediately fell in love with the track and that led me to find out more about this group called ON AN ON. What attracted me to this track? I'm a sucker for melancholic-sounding tracks. Ironically, this type of song makes me happy inside when listening to it. It definitely triggers a form of nostalgia that is somewhat heavy-hearted, but I appreciate a song's ability to do so. This track is off their forthcoming album titled Give In & it will be released on January 29, 2013!
GHOST BEACH - "TEAR US APART"
The word "ghost" seems to be the key word in most band names that are currently on the rise (don't forget Holy Ghost!) and this is one of the examples. Ghost Beach = "Tropical Grit Pop" and I definitely cannot argue with that! The more I listen to them, the more I find myself attracted. Very catchy and this a band that I would file next to Reptar (who I've featured on LYED in the past). Feel free to check out CRAZY HEART RECORDS via SoundCloud for more Ghost Beach tracks that are more than worth your ears' time!
JESSIE WARE - "RUNNING"
So this isn't the first time I've posted about the lovely woman named Jessie Ware from London. This is definitely an artist that's very underrated, and I want to share the talent that this woman has with each and every individual that finds their way onto this website! I've posted a bit about Jessie Ware's hit single "Wildest Moments" in a variety of ways. I first posted the Star Slinger remix of this track back in July, and then a few weeks later I stumbled across an edition of "Watch Listen Tell" that featured Jessie Ware! She has such a soulful voice
BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD - "IT'S A WAR"
If you've ever listened to an Indie band on Pandora, there's a huge chance that Blackbird Blackbird has popped up in the randomness of tracks that play. That is actually how I found out about this artist while listening to Discovery's Pandora station about a year ago. This is the opening track on Blackbird Blackbird's recent EP release titled Boracay Planet. I love what this song does to my mind, and I didn't realize how long it was until I actually looked after I listened for the first time. In a previous post I featured "All" by Blackbird Blackbird which was the first single off the EP, and I love how "All" is the 2nd track following the one above. Overall the EP is amazing, and if you have the time - go check it out! Definitely something that is fitting for a night drive or an early morning subway ride to work (take it from me).

freshvibesmonday #19

Shove everything that's bothering you to the side for now & just enjoy the music that's on this page. :)
Daughter - "RUN"
About a month ago when freshvibesmonday #16 was posted, I featured a track by Daughter titled "Smother". The track above was released as the proper B-side on October 1st. This track isn't entirely new, but this sharpened studio version is! Reminder, if you live in the Philly area - Daughter will be playing a show at Kung Fu Necktie on October 16th! Daughter has released two EP's titled The Wild Youth and His Young Heart that are AMAZING. You can find Daughter on Spotify or check out their SoundCloud // BandCamp. I love this band for how much power is conveyed through the lead singer's soft voice & their overall sound isn't afraid to tug with your heartstrings (a lot).
The Babies - "GET LOST"
This is a band from Brooklyn that I recently stumbled upon via e-mail, and I am glad that I did. This is is definitely 3 minutes & 19 seconds of ear candy, so don't skip this gem! This is the right enough of garage rock that keeps me interested. "Get Lost" is featured on their forthcoming LP Our House on the Hill out on November 13th (via Woodsist). Click here to check out another song called "Moonlight Mile" that's a bit more rugged but still just as good. The Babies just announced a fall tour this is quite lengthy & by clicking on their name above you will find the list of tour dates from their Facebook page!
Feed Me & Crystal Fighters - "LOVE IS ALL I GOT"
While I was on my way to work yesterday morning (730am East Coast time) I was looking through my Twitter feed and noticed that Feed Me had posted the official version of his recent collab with Crystal Fighters (who are well known for their perfect mix of Spanish & Basque music). After the first listen I immediately found myself going back to replay the track if that says anything. There are so many different words running through my head when listening to this song that I feel the only way to understand this song is to listen to it yourself.
Kimbra - "TWO WAY STREET" (Aeroplane Remix)
I was very surprised (in a good way) when I found out that Aeroplane aka Vito De Luca recently remixed one of Kimbra's most popular tracks. If you're digging this track, check out Aeroplane's SoundCloud account for more!
Chrome Canyon - "GENERATIONS"
So this track might not be fresh to you, but it is fresh to me! You can never go wrong with a little synth in your life (or a lot for this case). I was recently traveling through YouTube narnia the other day when I found this track.... and then to the right of the video were several other Chrome Canyon tracks that I eventually checked out as well. If you're looking for some futuristic instrumental material to get lost in - here you go!
This is a brand new track that I recently stumbled upon thanks to Pitchfork. It's definitely catchy in that Summer Camp / Envelopes kind of way. This is unfortunately the first I've heard from this Michigan band, and apparently it's been quite awhile since Saturday Looks Good to Me released something (4 years to be exact). This is a great "feel-good" song to include towards the end of the post if I do say so myself.
Iggy Azalea - "BAC 2 THA FUTURE (MY TIME)"
Ugh I don't know what it is but I sure am hooked on Iggy Azalea. Actually I do know - it's a combination of her voice, style, and the way she raps about whatever is on her mind, literally. Iggy Azalea is about to release her latest mixtape titled TrapGold this coming Thursday & the track/video above is a "teaser" to keep us hanging on until then. She is currently on tour with Rita Ora & will be coming to Philadelphia pretty soon! For more updates regarding this Australian "Rapstress" check out Iggy's Twitter account

P.S. Today two of my favorite albums were finally released in the US! Halcyon from Ellie Goulding & Lonerism from Tame Impala. Both Halcyon & Lonerism are sophomore albums and do a damn good job at following up to the respected debut albums.
Don't forget to check out LYED on Facebook & please share with your friends!

freshvibesmonday #18

Monday never fails to ignite those manic and stressful emotions, but don't worry - I hopefully have the perfect remedy. The tracks that I've selected below will hopefully tone down your manic day (as they have for me). Make sure to keep an eye out for LYED'S FACEBOOK PAGE, because I tend to post updates on there first.
Ellie Goulding - "MY BLOOD"
I am almost 100% sure this is the live version of the track from her recent performance at the iTunes Festival, but it sounds SO GOOD I just had to post it. Earlier today I posted another track from Ellie's forthcoming album titled Halcyon and the full-length will be released A WEEK FROM TOMORROW! To listen to that specific track that I posted - you can go to the FB page for LYED HERE! I am so stinkin' excited for this album. I've been a huge fan of Ellie since she started to pop up in the US, which were through remixes of her hit single "Starry Eyed". Last year I caught three of her live performances (two at festivals, and once at the UCSB hub for FREE thanks to her manager Jamie)! She is such an amazing individual and regardless of what press says about Ellie now that she's in a relationship with Skrillex, you should still respect her for the woman that she has become! I couldn't be happier for Ellie, and I have a good feeling that this album will be one for the books. :)

"ALL" was released as a single about a week ago, and this music video shortly followed. No lie, I was hooked on this track from the very first couple of seconds. This is the type of sound you can get lost in for awhile, and I definitely found myself clicking on the play button after every 4 minutes & 2 seconds had past. Blackbird Blackbird's follow-up release Boracay Planet comes out on October 16th via Lavish Habits.
Flock of Dimes is the side project of Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak. At first I was a bit turned off by the sound of Flock of Dimes because I was used to hearing Wasner's voice paired with dramatic guitar riffs and explosive drum solos. After a few listens everything started to click and I found myself attracted to this Robyn-esque version of Jenn Wasner. This particular track will be released as a single on November 20th via FrenchKiss. Expect to hear the B-side track on the next edition of "B-Sides- The Better Side?" Check out the SoundCloud account for Flock of Dimes where you'll find a handful of other tracks like this one!
St. Lucia - "CLOSER THAN THIS (Xaphoon Jones Remix)"
The beginning of this track immediately reminded me of Geographer, but gradually takes a different route. This track is a remix of a song off St. Lucia's self-titled debut EP. If you're curious to hear the original then click HERE! I am a big fan of the original but I like the direction that this remix takes.
Ghost Loft - "SECONDS"
This isn't necessarily fresh but I just found it the other day & wanted to share it with all of you.  I'm not too familiar with Ghost Loft, but that hasn't stopped me from researching them and listening to the tracks on their SoundCloud account. I truly appreciate a track as simple as this, but at the same time it makes me feel like I'm on a good one (if that makes any sense). If Ghost Loft is news to you, then I am very excited! This is definitely something you would find in YouTube Narnia, and if you're not familiar with that - then it's time you do some research! I've posted a couple entries regarding that you can find on this lovely little blog of mine, but have no fear....a new one is on it's way this month. :) Hopefully you enjoy this track from Ghost Loft and check out their SoundCloud account like I did! :)
Tame Impala - "BE ABOVE IT"
This is the first track off Lonerism, the follow-up to Tame Impala's 2010 debut Innerspeaker. As of today, Lonerism was is streaming on NPR & i'm currently listening to it as I type this. I'm only a couple songs into the album and already melting into my bed from this psychedelic/feel-good wave that is taking over my computer speakers. Tame Impala is definitely a band that you HAVE to see live. They're definitely one of those bands that have progressed into becoming one of the best live bands today. I was fortunate enough to catch Tame Impala at this year's Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, and am looking forward to their Philly show in November! Lonerism will be released in the US on October 9th (a week from tomorrow). Although this album has leaked, I am still purchasing a hardcopy  it & you should too. Support real music.

POLIÇA - "WANDERING STAR"

Well I'm not going to lie - I cried the first time I watched this video. It's such a powerful video when you truly devote all of your attention to it. It's a rather emotional song alone just by understanding the lyrics, but this video literally sparked the waterworks for me. Polica is currently on tour with Santa Barbara favorites Gardens & Villa (who always put on a great show), and I am definitely making it to their show this Wednesday regardless of how exhausted I feel. Their show is at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, which is a popular venue that I'm quite unfamiliar with (but have heard several great things about it). Also, this is another track that isn't as "fresh" but deserves the attention from your eyes and ears if you haven't checked it out already. Definitely check out POLIÇA on Spotify if you happen to have it or check out the SoundCloud account where you can access not only original tracks from Polica but remixes as well!
