Friday Fascination: Breton

Hailing from South London, Breton released their debut album Other People's Problems back in 2012, and as busy & complicated it presented itself to be - I was immediately hooked. "Population Density" opened the album and stuck to me like glue for quite some time. It wasn't long before I found out that Breton (originally BretonLabs) consisted of not only musicians, but talented filmmakers/visual artists as well.

Breton just released War Room Stories (via Believe Recordings,) and it's practically what I imagined their 2nd album to be. Loads of energy & a giant leap in production is what you'll find when you listen to "Envy" and the 9 songs that follow. (Listen to the album via Spotify here!)
Catch the Sun Glitters cameo?
Grab War Room Stories on iTunes here and if you're one of the lucky ones - Breton will be making their way across the US & Canada starting in March!

Friday Fascination: Broken Twin

Sometimes less is more, and in this case: simplicity seals the deal. Broken Twin is the project of Denmark's Majke Voss Romme, and this is not the style of music you'd blast on a beautiful sunny day, or maybe you would? It's the type that often goes unnoticed, and should be taken into account for how beautiful it is. You don't always have to have an intensified form of instrumentation to get the point across. Broken Twin sticks to the bare minimal using only strings and piano (for the most part.) When I listen to BT, I am often reminded of other UK Artists such as London Grammar & Daughter (who she recently supported on tour) & The XX, it's all ears on what she has to say (or sing.)
Her debut album May comes out in April (on the 29th to be exact) via Anti Records out of Los Angeles. Believe me when I say that this young woman has a bright future ahead of her.
Broken Twin just wrapped up a small handful of European dates supporting James Vincent McMorrow whose most recent release Post Tropical has become one of my favorites. (Check it out on Spotify here.)

LYED VDAY Playlist ~

Happy Valentine's or "Whatever You Want To Call It" Day! Singles Awareness, GALentines, PALentines, whatever it is.. I have a little something to accompany you while you wait for the clock to strike 5 (and be with your boo, of course) or while you hide under the covers waiting for someone on Tinder to message you. Here's a playlist full of music with mixed feelings about love, because let's be real - this holiday brings out the weirdest vibes in all of us. Hope you spend this day with someone you love, or a heart-shaped pizza.. either way you're winning in my book.

Friday Fascination: Young Summer

Young Summer a.k.a. Bobbie Allen is a singer/songwriter from Washington D.C. & I'll just go ahead and say it- i'm in looove with everything about YS. I recently discovered her debut EP titled Fever Dream (released via Ready Set Records,) and it's made up of a sound that's nearly ethereal in each of the 6 tracks. (Preview them all on iTunes!)

"Waves That Rolled You Under" is a mesmerizing standout on Fever Dream. Allen's voice literally floats with ease as she combs through the 4 minutes and 15 second of a melodic endeavor. (Hear the backstroke remix of it here!)

"Fever Dream" video directed by Johnny Ching.
"Why Try" is a soothing little number released early last year as a single, and also featured on Vampire Diaries Season 4. (Grab it on iTunes here!)
"Young Summer presents a new side of artistry for Allen. “It's extremely honest music,” she explains. “It really is no-holds-barred in its honesty. It feels that way when you hear it because that concept is very deliberate. That's the thread that brings all of the songs together and makes them related. It all comes from a very sincere and honest place.”
- PASTE Magazine
I'm quite upset that I missed her show at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, but I have a pretty good feeling Young Summer will be back to the west coast for more.

If you're a fan of Young Summer, I highly suggest that you check out Scavenger Hunt, who was a previous "Friday Fascination."
