FRESHVIBESMONDAY #37

Okay, okay.. you caught me. A song I featured in FVM#36 is in this week's edition, too. Need a hint on which one it is? (It's the first track.) When Young Summer released "Siren" last week, I literally fell in love with it at first listen. Her music is flat-out dreamy, and "Siren" reminds me of Daughter aka IT'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and hard to take off repeat. Back in February LYED featured her as a Friday Fascination (read it here!)
There's a lot of new names in this week's list that I've been introduced to recently (astronomyy & Adult Jazz who has a new album coming out next week!) Which song is your favorite from this batch?
In other news, Sir Sly just announced that their debut full-length comes out September 16th(!) and to celebrate they've released "You Haunt Me" (which is also the name of the record.)
ICYMI: Twin Oaks was last week's Friday Fascination (check 'em out here after.)

Friday Fascination: Twin Oaks

Fell in love with a band from Los Angeles last night thanks to an amazing app on my iPhone called DISCOVR! They go by the name of Twin Oaks and consist of Lauren Brown & Aaron Christopher. They're equal parts dream pop & folk and often remind me of The Blues and Greys who were featured last month on LYED. Listen to their EP The Lion's Den below & you'll realize that this is probably one of the most underrated releases of the year. They have a style that's smooth but jam-packed with emotion that has me simply hooked. They self-released the EP earlier this year, but will definitely stick around for LYED's end of the year list (it's that good.)

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #36

Hope you're ready for a few curveballs with this week's selection of songs! Opening the playlist with "Lifespan" by Vaults was a recent gem I found and fell immediately in love with (check out their SoundCloud page.)  Since stumbling across 19 year old Rebecca Clements from England, I haven't been able to go a day without listening to "Coma Boy." Things start to pick up with tracks like "Racy" from Hooray for Earth and from then on it's a weave of highs & melLOWS that wraps up with Future Islands remix of one of my favorite Phantogram tracks "Black Out Days." Hope you dig it as much as I do.

P.S. Every photo used for the background of FVM comes from none other than my backyard aka the beaches of Santa Barbara, CA (because honestly, who doesn't go to the beach and not snap a photo of the ocean when it's gorgeous out?)

Don't forget to check out last week's FVM#35 which was updated with even more releases after it was up. Or you can just click on the FRESHVIBESMONDAY tab up top!

Friday Fascination: MEG MAC

Last week's FVM#34 was one of my personal faves, and featured near the top was "Roll Up Your Sleeves" by Melbourne neo-soul singer MEG MAC. It's safe to say that this song was easily one that clearly stood out on its own musically (but diving down from the second listen is a discovery you'll find below.) All cliche's aside, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this powerful tune for the first time.

After I first watched this video -I'm not going to lie - it made me emotional by how strong it was. Sometimes you don't need the extra glitter and over-the-top effects, but simplicity & sincerity is all it takes to send chills down my spine.  & for that - thank you, Meg Mac.
(Get the 411 on this beautiful piece of imagery via Bullett Media.)
With her first tour announced to take place throughout Australia, I have a feeling it won't be long before this brunette makes her way overseas to take the states by storm. Mark my word, I have a lot of faith in this individual.

In short, everything is gonna be alright.

Getting Back Under The Covers: Part V

Some oldies, some goodies, some newbies. A few from the archives, and several I've stumbled upon recently.

P.S. In case you're wondering who the cute kitty is above, his name is Bobby & he belongs to a good friend who has one of the best Instagrams ever - @dessgirl is where it's at.

IYCMI: FVM#35 was a goooood one (check it out here.)

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #35

If you thought I was going to start off FVM#35 with something other than the new one from Usher featuring Nicki Minaj, think again. Thanks to the 2014 Adult Swim Series we are now in the presence of a new Speedy Ortiz & Machinedrum song (will this series be as good as 2012 Adult Swim?)  Also, Lyves is someone to go crazy about, especially after being apart of Phoria's EP launch event recently. Don't let "Visions" pass you by in this week's sea of tunes.
P.S. It was actually kind of hard not to include a few covers in the mix -so there might be a post with a new batch of covers coming soon (aka tomorrow.)

Friday Fascination: Paperwhite

Once upon a time a lovely brother-sister duo by the name of Paperwhite released a track named "Got Me Goin" & I instantly fell in love. Since that release we've been graced with a handful of remixes and the recent gem "Magic" from Brooklyn's Katie & Ben Marshall.
(P.S. If Ben looks familiar, he's also the drummer for one of LYED's favorites Savoir Adore.) This band is definitely one to keep an eye (or ear) out for this year, mark my word.

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #34

The Monday after the beloved 4th of July is always a rough one when you have to come to terms with reality again, so here's an extra hearty dose of freshvibesmonday to get the week going! Plenty of treats in this one including the ever-so popular Disclosure remix of Usher's "Good Kisser" that threw everyone off (including yours truly.) There's quite a few remixes that were too good to put off any longer including Dave of Glass Animals remixing BANKS "Drowning." Eliza Shaddad's "Waters" is something I've sorta obsessing over, so visit her SoundCloud page while you're at it.
Which track was your favorite?

P.S. Late to the FVM party? Catch up on everything you've missed here
