FMLYBND - "Save Me From Myself"

Isla Vista's finest FMLYBND have been keeping us on our toes as we wait for this month's installment of a new release (that also serves as a free download), and here it is! "For their April release, the band shows off their grungy, surf-rock influences. Entitled "Save Me From Myself," the song displays a new dimension of the band that departs from the dance elements that initially pulled in fans all over the world. Still, it's going to be hard NOT to sway to this!
"Save Me From Myself" is a part of FMLYBND's big endeavor to put out a new song a month for all of 2015." Catch it on this week's edition of freshvibesmonday along with several other gems. You can download the rest of FMLYBND's tracks on their SoundCloud, including last month's "Euphoria" which was an LYED favorite right from the start. This is definitely not an opportunity to sleep on, so get straight to listening. Besides, there's a pretty sweet cover waiting for you on their site that is a definite highlight during their live performance.
P.S. FMLYBND is heading on tour with Milky Chance, if you missed the memo you can check the dates at www.fmlybnd.com
(Don't forget, FMLYBND was a Friday Fascination back in January.)

Stuck on Repeat: "Euphoria" by FMLYBND

Isla Vista’s FMLYBND continues their steady onslaught of monthly releases with a brand new March release entitled “Euphoria.” Unlike the first 3 releases of the year which featured Mac Montgomery singing lead vocals, his wife Braelyn (hence the name 'family’ band) adds an extra dynamic to FMLYBND and shows the world her singing and writing chops on “Euphoria.”
Switching it up definitely works in the sense that "Euphoria" doesn't stray far at all from the FMLYBND vibes that we've grown accustomed to. If you aren't up to date with their previous releases, drop everything and visit their SoundCloud page to hear more gems. P.S. Did I mention that "Euphoria" along with the previous monthly releases are free to download?

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #66

Don't let this be "just another Monday" but instead, the Monday that gets you fueled for for what's to come. It's a bit of a mellow mix upfront, but don't let it get you down - we're just making it easy for you. Lots of unfamiliar names on this week's selection which means one thing - DISCOVERIES! Most of the above names I've barely listened to, and am so glad I finally got around to doing so (Gengahr, Pearls, GIRL FRIEND, Marian Hill, LEGS.) As always this playlist will grow, as I'm typing this out Sunday night, I am almost positive this playlist will double by Monday evening, so get those ears ready!

P.S. LET YOUR EARS DECIDE TURNS 3 YEARS OLD NEXT MONTH!
Lots of exciting stuff to celebrate on this awesome day of birth, head over to LYED on Facebook for the 411 on what will be taking place (hopefully you've *liked* the page already & spread the word about it ;D

Friday Fascination: FMLYBND

As a current resident of Santa Barbara, I'm quite pleased with what my ears have heard from the current bands that circulate the area. One in particular is a four-piece that go by the name of FMLYBND. They're "a band from the slum beach paradise of Isla Vista" (where I also lived for a handful of years and can agree 100% with that description.)

“Letting Go” is the first release of 2015 for FMLYBND, who will be releasing a new single for free every month this year! (Help it climb the charts by giving it a heart over on Hypemachine.) Next release date: February 16th! I'm looking forward to each and every release, as their most recent EP Back To Life was a proper debut and one of the most energetic releases of 2014 in my book.
ALSO! FMLYBND recently uploaded their stellar cover of "Where Is My Mind?" by The Pixies onto their SoundCloud account, which is a highlight of their most recent shows.
P.S. You'll be doing your ears a favor if you follow them on SoundCloud because that's where you'll find all of their material (both new and old) as soon as they're released.

(Download the studio version of their cover.)
& last but not least, if you're catching Milky Chance on tour this Spring, there's a good chance you'll be seeing FMLYBND as well (if the date of your show is listed below.)

FMLYBND EP Release Show @ SOHo 10/10

This Friday night We The Beat is throwing an extra special show at one of my favorite venues ever, SOHo for the release of FMLYBND's Back To Life EP. Sun Daes (also from Isla Vista) will be opening so this is the right time to show your support for local music. Grab your tickets for the event here & be sure to spread the word - it's going to be a great night in Santa Barbara!
P.S. If you're not familiar with FMLYBND, time to do your homework and get to listening - this EP is an automatic favorite of mine.

On The Next Episode of NewMusicpalooza..

So many releases happened yesterday, my ears didn't know what to do - so I decided to dedicate a post focusing on most (if not all of them) instead. I'll keep it short & sweet for y'all - Below you'll find a track from each of the albums that were released, and if you dig it - click the link below to preview/purchases the rest of the album!
It's as convenient as that.
I have no idea why yesterday was thee day to release an EP/album of all the other Tuesdays, but hey - i'm not complaining. (I just know what I'll be doing for the next couple of days, until Tuesday rolls around again.)
P.S. Before you dive into the music, let's take a minute of silence for Alice Glass announcing that she's leaving Crystal Castles.
So many feels with that band, so many feels.

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #45

Mondays aren't always a pain when there's new music to be heard, am iiiiii right? Pretty stoked to include two new songs from local Santa Barbara bands FMLYBND & Mexico City Blondes (who was a recent Friday Fascination.) With every SBTRKT release, I feel that I'm becoming more impatient waiting for the new album (but I have a feeling that it's going to be one of the greatest of 2014.) Thanks to The Wild Honey Pie, I recently fell in love with a duo that go by the name of Leisure Cruise (who released their debut album this year, listen to it here.) All in all, this week's selection is shaping up to be a good one, but if you missed out on FVM#44 - I highly suggest that you check it out!
Don't forget, this playlist gets updated throughout the week so as always, watch this space.

LYED Favorite Treats of 2013: The EPs

Welp, it's that time of the year again when music writers & bloggers from all over post their "end of the year" lists. Last year I was a little late to the party, so this year I'm doing things a little different. Below are 16 EP's (also known as Extended Play) from this year that we really had a thing for. Most of these EP's were the first proper release from the artist, or were a form of a follow-up to the last studio release. They're in no specific order, although I will say one thing - Phantogram's self-titled release & Young Wonder's sophomore EP didn't make it far from leaving the repeat button.
I'm well aware that I'm might be leaving out a few from the list, but hey I'm not trying to post a novel here. Feel free to leave your thoughts/comments/concerns below &
stay tuned for more treats of 2013!
