FRESHVIBESMONDAY #48

(Shout-out to my friend @mallorystarr for lending me this week's image for FVM.)

Keeping it short & sweet with the selection this week for now, but there's no telling of what gems will be released in the next couple of days - so as always, watch this space. I have to admit, I'm extra excited to hear from Tei Shi again - this time with "Bassically" a song that's sparked the internet's airwaves ever so perfectly. (I highly recommend listening to "Nevermind The End" over on her SoundCloud, that song gives me butterflies every time I listen to it.) ALSO, we've been exposed to the first taste of Oh Land's forthcoming album with the title track "Head Up High." Definitely a fan.
If the name Crooked Colours rings a bell, it could have been when LYED featured them as a Friday Fascination back in May? Heard "Capricious" for the first time on Saturday night and instantly added it to this week's FVM. P.S. Hope you're as excited about "FROOT" as I am, there's no telling what Marina Diamandis has up her sleeve for album #3.

PSSTT. Hey Santa Barbara, Happy New Noise Week! Hoping to absorb as much music as possible on Wednesday & Thursday starting with one of my favorite bands ever, Polica at SOHo! I was fortunate enough to catch this four-piece in Philadelphia two years ago at Union Transfer, with the talented Gardens & Villa as the opening band (as if I couldn't have been anymore homesick.) Needless to say it was one of the best nights I experienced while living in Philly - because seeing Polica live is unlike anything else. Do yourself a favor and grab a ticket now before it sells out, seriously!

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #34

The Monday after the beloved 4th of July is always a rough one when you have to come to terms with reality again, so here's an extra hearty dose of freshvibesmonday to get the week going! Plenty of treats in this one including the ever-so popular Disclosure remix of Usher's "Good Kisser" that threw everyone off (including yours truly.) There's quite a few remixes that were too good to put off any longer including Dave of Glass Animals remixing BANKS "Drowning." Eliza Shaddad's "Waters" is something I've sorta obsessing over, so visit her SoundCloud page while you're at it.
Which track was your favorite?

P.S. Late to the FVM party? Catch up on everything you've missed here

Getting Back Under The Covers: Part IV

Have you ever had one of those days where the second you get home from work, you instantly crawl into bed and never want to leave? That was me yesterday, so I figured while I was under the covers - why not make another playlist filled with those? Hope you dig this batch, because I definitely do

For more covers, I suggest checking out the Covers Tab here on LYED as well as the stellar A.V. Undercover site (via A.V. Club.) I won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say there's magic being made over there with every cover.

FRESHVIBESMONDAY #32

23 songs for FVM#32 on the 23rd of June? You got it. Hope you dig this week's selection of remixes, original releases, and there's even a cover in there if you can spot it. It's been a minute since we've heard from Lucy Rose, and this may or may not be the most upbeat tune I've heard from her (FYI I LOVE IT.) She's not the only one who's been hiding away making new music, just take a look at the list and you'll know what I mean. It's a sweet preview of what's to come, and I couldn't be more excited about what Tennis, Mesita, Jessie Ware, and Zola Jesus have all dropped in the past week or so. I could go on, but you have quite a bit of listening to do. Enjoy!

LYED Favorite Treats of 2013: The EPs

Welp, it's that time of the year again when music writers & bloggers from all over post their "end of the year" lists. Last year I was a little late to the party, so this year I'm doing things a little different. Below are 16 EP's (also known as Extended Play) from this year that we really had a thing for. Most of these EP's were the first proper release from the artist, or were a form of a follow-up to the last studio release. They're in no specific order, although I will say one thing - Phantogram's self-titled release & Young Wonder's sophomore EP didn't make it far from leaving the repeat button.
I'm well aware that I'm might be leaving out a few from the list, but hey I'm not trying to post a novel here. Feel free to leave your thoughts/comments/concerns below &
stay tuned for more treats of 2013!
Dan Croll - From Nowhere

Phantogram - Phantogram
Panama - Always

Iggy Azalea - Change Your Life
Young Wonder - Show Your Teeth

Flume & Chet Faker - Lockjaw

Fmlybnd - Gold

Jessie Ware - If You're Never Gonna Move

FKA twigs - EP2
Jaymes Young - Dark Star

Bear's Den - Agape
Sir Sly - Gold

Tennis - Small Sound

- Bikini Daze EP
Cold War Kids - Tuxedos
Kitten - Like A Stranger

WATCH LISTEN TELL | Half Moon Run

(Picture retrieved from WLT's Facebook Page)
I have to admit that I am a huge fan of the Watch Listen Tell series. In the past they've featured some of my favorite artists such as Bombay Bicycle ClubLucy RoseDaughter, and Jessie Ware in various locations throughout the world. The latest edition of WLT features a talented Montreal band by the name of Half Moon Run (who are currently on tour with Mumford & Sons!) I love this acoustic version of "Unofferable" as it is beautifully paired with the setting that is Alexandra Palace.
Half Moon Run - "Unofferable"

By taking talented musicians out of the studio and into a new environment to perform original material is something that WLT executes quite perfectly. WLT has been a nonprofit music channel on YouTube since 2008, and if you care to check out previous
performances - click here! What plays a huge role in how Watch Listen Tell works is the factor of telling or sharing with someone about these sessions, it's the least that we could do & these
P.S. For those of you who follow Watch Listen Tell on Twitter, you'll be one of the first to know about upcoming performances and when they'll be uploaded onto the site (so do yourselves a favor & follow them.)

Check out this clip of Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine from 4 years ago performing my favorite track "My Boy Builds Coffins." Do you think the video would have been the same if she performed it last week?

LYED - Putting A Plug On 2012

Over the past couple of weeks I've made several attempts at creating posts that feature my favorite songs/albums of 2012, but to be honest - 2012 was an AMAZING year for music. There were too many to individually list on a blog post (could you imagine how long the post would be?) From my involvement with this lovely music blog, I was able to find/discover amazing artists such as: ON AN ON, Kill Paris, The NeighbourhoodJessie Ware, Alt-J, Breton, Star Slinger, CHVRCHES, and more! More specifically, creating posts like "Getting Under The Covers" and "YouTube Narnia" helped expand my appreciation of music by miles. Can't forget how many concerts/festivals I attended in the various cities & states, and that my friends is what made this year AMAZING. If you ever get the chance to see a band live, DON'T PUT IT PAST YOU! Mark my words. New or old, popular or underground.... live music is something I deeply treasure & hope you do too!
I was recently asked to guest blog about my Top 10 albums on The Source Weekly, and in addition you can check out what I had to say about my #1 album of 2012 - Halcyon by Ellie Goulding! Special thanks to Ethan Maffey for giving LYED this amazing opportunity! You can check out everything Ethan has posted in terms of  "Best Of ____ (aka everything music related)" by clicking HERE! It's a pretty amazing compilation of lists to say the least.
P.S. By clicking on TSW link above, you can see which tracks I picked from my Top 10 favorite albums - definitely worth checking out
So instead of multiple posts, I decided to sum everything up (that could be accounted for on Spotify) on a Playlist instead! This is a compiled list of songs that were either featured here on LYED or on the FB page for LYED. There's a handful of gems that are on this playlist that might have slipped past LYED posts, my apologies! Although this list is pretty lengthy, it definitely could have been longer because several songs I had blogged about in the past weren't available on Spotify *insert sad emoji face*. If there is a track/artist that I forgot to add on the playlist (which wouldn't surprise me) LET LYED KNOW by posting on LYED'S FB Page, which is less than 40 likes away from 400. I would be more than happy to add your suggestions! :)
PLEASE SPREAD THE LYED LOVE!
So, here is the amazing playlist that best defines LYED (from a Spotify point of view). I hope this playlist brings back old & amazing memories from the past year or attracts you to an artist that you've never heard before! Thanks everyone! XX

One AMAZING Way to Start Your Morning :)

For me personally, getting ready in the morning is something that cannot be done without listening to MUSIC. Listening to something that's upbeat is a MUST! Sorry espresso, but you're not #1 on my list of pick-me-ups when I'm looking for something to start the day off right (although there are days when a pit-stop for coffee is more than necessary). My preference for music in the morning varies with the type of day it's going to be. Some mornings I immediately go straight for Yeasayer's latest album Fragrant World, and then there are mornings where I blast LCD Soundsystem like there's no tomorrow and it turns into a one-person dance party with my hairbrush in hand. Take it from me, LCD Soundsystem does wonders especially when you have to wake up at 4:15AM for your 6AM shift. ;)

The playlist featured below is more of a mellow (but nowhere near as mellow as a Bon Iver track) selection of songs! These are the songs that I immediately turn on the second I walk out the door of my apartment complex, and into the chilly Philadelphia weather. There's a great chance you've heard a few of the tracks before. My morning playlist is never the same, so there will be different versions popping up throughout the next couple of weeks, hope you find them just as helpful as I do!

4 THINGS YOUR EARS NEED TO HEAR ASAP.

& what a big surprise, each of the songs featured below are quite different from the next one. This was definitely a coincidence, but then again I've never been one to stick with a single genre when blogging or listening to music. I also posted a couple of videos/tracks that I'm currently digging on my Twitter account
www.twitter.com/emponce
& also - don't forget to check out www.facebook.com/LetYourEarsDecide!
For all of you Bombay Bicycle Club fans - I recently gave away two free tickets to tonight's sold out show at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood from the LYED Facebook page! Congratulations to Calia Minasian who won the tickets & is currently enjoying the show :)

ON AN ON - "GHOSTS"
This was recently brought to my attention from a good friend named Kat, and without hesitation I clicked on it because she is someone who knows what I like (when it comes to music). I immediately fell in love with the track and that led me to find out more about this group called ON AN ON. What attracted me to this track? I'm a sucker for melancholic-sounding tracks. Ironically, this type of song makes me happy inside when listening to it. It definitely triggers a form of nostalgia that is somewhat heavy-hearted, but I appreciate a song's ability to do so. This track is off their forthcoming album titled Give In & it will be released on January 29, 2013!
GHOST BEACH - "TEAR US APART"
The word "ghost" seems to be the key word in most band names that are currently on the rise (don't forget Holy Ghost!) and this is one of the examples. Ghost Beach = "Tropical Grit Pop" and I definitely cannot argue with that! The more I listen to them, the more I find myself attracted. Very catchy and this a band that I would file next to Reptar (who I've featured on LYED in the past). Feel free to check out CRAZY HEART RECORDS via SoundCloud for more Ghost Beach tracks that are more than worth your ears' time!
JESSIE WARE - "RUNNING"
So this isn't the first time I've posted about the lovely woman named Jessie Ware from London. This is definitely an artist that's very underrated, and I want to share the talent that this woman has with each and every individual that finds their way onto this website! I've posted a bit about Jessie Ware's hit single "Wildest Moments" in a variety of ways. I first posted the Star Slinger remix of this track back in July, and then a few weeks later I stumbled across an edition of "Watch Listen Tell" that featured Jessie Ware! She has such a soulful voice
BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD - "IT'S A WAR"
If you've ever listened to an Indie band on Pandora, there's a huge chance that Blackbird Blackbird has popped up in the randomness of tracks that play. That is actually how I found out about this artist while listening to Discovery's Pandora station about a year ago. This is the opening track on Blackbird Blackbird's recent EP release titled Boracay Planet. I love what this song does to my mind, and I didn't realize how long it was until I actually looked after I listened for the first time. In a previous post I featured "All" by Blackbird Blackbird which was the first single off the EP, and I love how "All" is the 2nd track following the one above. Overall the EP is amazing, and if you have the time - go check it out! Definitely something that is fitting for a night drive or an early morning subway ride to work (take it from me).

Slow Magic - "ON YR SIDE"
Bombay Bicycle Club - "LIGHT'S OUT WORDS GONE"

Click on the link above to listen to Star Slinger's latest remix of Jessie Ware's hit single "Wildest Moments". Ahhhh Star Slinger can do no wrong in my book.

netsky - "PUPPY"
Diana - "BORN AGAIN"

Recently Gorilla Vs. Bear released a June 2012 mix that is available for download on their site. It's a great collection of summer tunes, including Purity Ring, Frank Ocean, Clams  Casino, and more! Click on the link below to check out the track list.
